Flora

Autumn-grass (n): Harvested during Autumn in Harvesthome; and acts as the main source of grain-food for the entire Northern Region. Design: a long reed-like blade of grass, strong and flexible to withstand the Northern winds. Each blade is a hollow tube that grows a long strand of pod-grain. The pod-grain push against the inside of the stalk and create small bumps that indicate a fertile batch. The edges of the blade are sharp, making large reeds particularly dangerous to harvest. The major exporting good between Harvesthome and Solstice.

Broothtul (n): A heavy black plant, grown on farmlands in the Northern regions. While thick, rotten, and black above ground, the root can be peeled and boiled, providing a tasteless green source of produce.

Bulsa Tree (n): Also found exclusively on the plains, a Bulsa tree in known for it’s short standing (only around twenty to thirty feet tall), but massively thick branches. The wingspan of the tree can sometimes reach to almost 100 yards, and the branches and roots are used for many items in the Journeyman culture.

Bulsabs (n): The fruit of the Bulsa Tree.  The shell is hard and yellow, but when tapped the juice inside is an icredibly refreshing source of energy and hydration.  The inside can be scraped for the bitter blue meat of the fruit, but after being tapped people often leave it shell and all for the animals of the plains.

Callaba Tree (n): A massive tree found exclusively on the plains. It is known for it’s bark, which can be used to make an extremely sturdy fiber. In Harvesthome, Justice’s boots were often crafted with fibers from the Callaba tree. Because of this, Woodsmen have also been seen to wear them; after stealing them off the feet of dead Justices.

Camolute (n): A delicacy, Camolute is an incredibly sweet and small vegetable that grows out of standard farmlands. In order for Camolute to ripen properly it must be grown in dirt that is fertilized with Rhodia excrement.

Ghielrout (n): An extremely bitter naturally occurring anesthetic. The most potent sap is located in the root, which can be chewed whole, or cut and ground into a paste for unconscious patients. It is fast acting and in large quantities can induce sleep or hallucinations. A narcotic in some subcultures, mildly dangerous if mishandled.

Grass-kin (n): (See Sol-Fruit)

Gut (n): A thick vine-like plant found in dry habitats. When dried the stalk cracks and separates into a dozen or more thin strands of thin fibrous material. The gut then lasts a few days in this current state before dissolving, making it ideal for stitching in medical procedures. Difficult to manipulate without experience.

Kingsfruit (n): Fruit that grows in the late summer, from the boughs of Harvesthome’s Kingswood (See: Kingswood). The fruit is dangerous to gather, as it grows at extremidies and thus is expensive to purchase. But it’s unique combination of spicy and sweet flavors make it a well sought after, fermented drink: Moonvine.

Kingwood, the (n): A monstrous tree that grows in Northeast Harvesthome. Speculated to have one housed an ancient civilization of tree-dwellers, the tree is the largest records in current history and harbors thousands of natural and manipulated passageways. The most notable is the Heart, a large cavernous area that passes completely through the tree. Local folklore believes the Kingwood and the Heart in particular are haunted.

Light-caps (n): Glowing mushrooms that grow around Harvesthome, in Queenwood and Kingwood in particular. Light-caps produce a light blue fungus that can rub off on animals and humans passing by, the fungus glows as well making this growth a well-sought after ‘utility nature’ specimen.

Lotus Leaves (n): A lotus is a small tree that grows on the side of cliffs. It’s unique location allows it to absord a great amount of salt and minerals from the seawater that splashes against it. As such when Lotus leaves are burned and smoked, it provides the inhalant with a strong high.

Magnac (n): A lowlying seven leafed green plant, magnac leaves are covered in oils that can cause horrible rashes when contact is made with human skin. What makes things worse is that it looks remarkably similar to Mauntnow

Maka Tree (n): Also known as the peeling tree, the tree protects itself with an unbelieveably hard center ring. The outside however is extremely fragile and sturdy, so much so that the bark and skin can literally be peeled off to yield an extraordinarly strong piece of string. Maka Trees are only found at great heights.

Mauntnow (n): A lowlying seven leafed green plant, it’s leaves are incredibly sturdy and soft, earning it the nickname, “nature’s toilet paper.”

Pacnuck (n): A long thin fruit, it is notable for its violet skin, which when peeled, yields a soft gooey center. Pacnucks only grow from trees at extremely tall heights.

SiphonTree (n): Massive trees that grow sparsely throughout the world. Ex: Kingwood. (Not common knowledge: SiphonTrees are named after their ability to absorb large amounts of radiation from Corna, Tarna, Forte, and Morendo. Because of this, the trees are often home to many peculiar fauna and flora; often including utility nature.)

Sol-Fruit (n): (AKA Grass-kin) Found in the surrounding hills of Solstice and Harvesthome;  said to have been discovered by one of the learned Justices, Hoyle Manso from ‘the Southern cities’. Noted to have a peculiar starburst pattern on its underside; a dark black fruit with little taste but thick black juice that could be fermented.
Not commonly known: Enzymes in the juice act as a catalyst that makes Raw Autumn grass edible. It is speculated that Sol-fruit can cause organisms to grow well beyond their normal sizes, and is fed to Harts in Harvesthome to make them sizeable mounts. Major trade item.

Troubrout (n): A narcotic depressant that is smoked, much like Ghielrout. It’s a heavy sedative that makes the user complacent and cooperative, though maintains a sense of awareness. Often used on criminals during question, extended use can leave debilitating effects. Chronic use can lead to death.

Wheat Brag (n): Perhaps one of the most pure and filthy forms of grain, wheat brag is a processed grain that makes a  doughy and chewy substance. While not particularly delicious, it is a great source of carbohydrates and relatively cheap.  In Harvesthome, wheat brag was a staple in many Harvesters’ diets; often served with a cup of Thrush-sap to add flavor to an otherwise plain meal.
